Reject!

We all have our shares of rejections in life, whether it's the honor roll that we didn't make the list in high school or the girl didn't want to play with you when you were in preschool....we all went through some. Well, my latest reject was from the submission that I made for the Sept/Oct Papercraft  pub call. It seems all the rage for the avid card-makers to get their cards published. I, too, jumped on the bandwagon! I actually didn't think I can make the deadline with my new work schedule. On the day of deadline (Mar.14), our office was canceled due to Dr. John's stomach problem (too bad  felt sorry for him, but hooray fine for me)! I took the plunge!! I made my one and only card and submitted.
submission
Yeah, I know....like, what's the chance, eh? It's such a simple card and SO last-minute! I heard that there are 925 submissions for this call - and only 80 spots!!! I'm joining the blog hop of the rejects ( see Amber's blog) and may as well share!
submissionIt was difficult to see my 16-year son David not getting his position as Junior Leader for the Science Camp last year. He tried really really hard. Getting the resume done, reference from two teachers, coming up with a lesson plan (I know, isn't that something!?) and the interview, David was disappointed and felt defeated that he didn't make it last summer. When it was application time this year, he asked :" Should I even bother to apply, Mommy?" I said: " Absolutely! How else would you get accepted?". With that, he prepared all over again. He received the happy e-mail notifying that he's got the job a few days after the interview.

I hope to be in David's shoes soon. For now I will continue to enjoy the lemonade when I seem to have an abundant supplies of lemons. On a good note, my card was featured in Hero Arts here. It's all good!

Hi Virginia! It does feel that it's all the rage these days. But for me I don't bother. If it's not a card I really want to make why would I waste my time for the chance of it? I don't have as much time to create as I would desire and feel that I need to enjoy my hobby and not stress! :> I love your card and am sad it didn't make it! But am thrilled your son did! What a hard thing to get, but he did it! :>

Well, I just LOVE this card, even if they didn't! You always come up with the cutest, most clever ideas, Virginia. It really is adorable! Take your own advice you gave to David, and keep trying. You are so talented, I know it won't be long before it happens. Huge congrats to David! What an exciting adventure for him! You must be so proud! Big hugs!

I think it is rather cute Virginia and as long as you enjoyed making it.... and gave it a go, publishing would be a bonus, rather than the reason.... I sometimes think why bother too... but like you said to David - you can't get accepted unless you try. Enjoy trying my friend!

So ADORABLE! LOVE it!

Virginia, I absolutely love your card! It's an adorable creation that mixes clean and simple with fun and cute. What else can a card ask for? :D
Just a submission tip I've learned through the past months that might be useful and somehow explain the rejection (besides the fierce competence out there!): Current product, at least in the "main" components of the card. I was tempted to use that HA elephant too but I think the stamp set is discontinued = hard to find for the readers.
Big hugs and we'll try again next time! (I had 25 rejections in this issue, lol!)

I love that cute little elephant! And, I am sure you will be published if you keep trying; your cards are always so clever and well designed, Virginia!

I have seen that word REJECT so much on the blogosphere lately. Such a negative word... it was passed over this time... but its STILL amazing! I would publish it. :-)

Oh Virginia...FIRST - I want to say that your card is amazing!!! I would certainly publish it!

I too know that word REJECT. I have tried soooo many times to get published and nothing. It has been over a year now, and it is nt a good feeling. I have tried so many time even to win on the HA Blog and I have not won there either. I will say what folks have told me - you just have to KEEP TRYING...and please know that this is coming from someone who has NEVER won...LOL!!! I could go on about not getting picked but there is a great ending to your story - your son David got the job - WooHoo!!! What I have been learning is that it's easy to inspire and encourage our kids to keep on trying - I have to now listen to my OWN WORDS and take MY ADVICE!!! Hugs to you Virginia - have a great weekend!

The publication game is full of ups and downs. Gotta take the good with the bad and know that you've given it your best each time. There's only so much space in each issue and there are so many variables that go into the decision making!

I'm so happy that you're sharing your creation in the blog hop so that you can still inspire others with your craftiness!

Don't let the word "Reject" get you down - I'm hoping to redefine it with the blog hop! No reason we can't make rejection look good - you certainly have with this creation!

LOVE your sweet and charming card, AND the best part...you tried! And you will do just fine! I think in life the 'rejects' can make us stronger, depending on how we view it...view it positively and the rejects make us want to try harder. View it negatively and it will only get you down. That's how I try to look at it. I love your work and your style...like you said, "It's all good!" Love ya my friend!

Keep on trying, beautiful card, and ingenious idea!

We've gone over this, it's not a reject if you only submitted one or two or twenty projects PER call :)

Oh, Virginia! Your cards are ALWAYS DARLING, especially this HAPPY, elephant card. It's sweet as pie and guess what, YOU WILL GET PUBLISHED! You never know if it fit what they had planned, who knows. Main thing is, you ENTERED and stretched those brain cells a little more and also have compassion for David through this little "submission call", so all is not lost. It hurts sometimes to be rejected, I see it ALL of the time on the playground, but in the end, you're a stronger person. I LOVE that you have LEMONADE, Virginia! I LOVE LEMONADE, more than LEMONS! :) Keep the inspiration flowing, Virginia. I'll be looking for your lovely work in another publication, SOON! :) Love, Karen xoxoxo

Your ideas are always clever and I love your humor. If they didn't see it this time with this adorable funny and "delicate" card and it's their loss! Next time my Friend! For what it's worth" I would have picked your card for sure!
Let me also add that you are also brilliant at creating a whole scene, something i find particularly difficult to do! so There!!
