What is Dr. John thinking?

It's been a while since Dr. John made an "appearance". Here is the latest...

Virginia: Hey, did you see my card with hexagons? Aren't they cool?
Dr. John: What's so special about hexagons?
Virginia: Hexagons are really trendy and the shape is so neat for card-making!
Dr. John: How did you cut them?
Virginia: I have a diecut set.
Dr. John: What? You have a diecut set just for THAT?
Virginia: Yeah, this Lifestyle set comes with 15 dies in different sizes and they cost $25 US!
Dr. John: (gasp) 15 dies for 25 bucks!?
Virginia: It makes things so much easier...how else would you cut them?
Dr. John: Don't you have scissors?
Virginia: (rolling my eyes) yeah right...
Dr. John: heehee!

I admit... it was one of those impulsive on-line purchase. After seeing Jennifer McGuire using this diecut set (see here), it instantly won me over. I had absolutely NO idea what I'd do with it when I ordered the set. But I was determined to make it worthwhile! With that, I have my latest cards with....
more hexagons!
beelieve
I had a bit of a play with the word "beelieve"! Hope it makes sense to you!
you are the BEST!
In this card, I attempted a manly approach! Three colors, three images, three diecut...that should work! I basically cut out the dies and let them sit on my desk for a few days. This Hero Arts set Past Time is really handy for creating masculine cards.

I think Dr. John will like this for a Father's Day card and I bet he'd say that the hexagon set is worth EVERY PENNY

You absolutely got every penny out of those dies! Hee Hee... You probably even SAVED him money... somehow...that's always a good argument. Simply wonderful cards, Virginia!

I find it best not to disclose prices to the husband....

Your cards are amazing, especially the second! Great colors.

These are awesome, especially the second. I now NEED these dies :) I had a craft-related injury the other day (stapled my pinky finger) and immediately thought of you and Dr. John! lol I'll be linking up to your fab challenge, great inspiration photo :)

Hehe...what an amusing conversation with Dr. John. Thanks for sharing.

The beelieve card is so cute! I like how you're making the hexagons worthwhile. Be sure to share the conversation when Dr. John gets the hexagon Father's Day card :D

The hexagons do sound like a good deal. I'm just curious since you're also in Canada- When you ordered from the US, how much were the customs/duties? There's just so many good online craft stores in the US and not so much in Canada...:I

For Victoria-
About the on-line ordering, I have been ordering from Simon Says Stamps. If your order is $75US and over, the shipping is FREE! (In US, it will only have to be over $50). I had ordered from Simon Says stamps twice now and both times were great!

Scissors? Really? What is Dr. John thinking? :)

I love all those hexagons...thinking I need them too. I mean really I couldn't cut them could I? And you go girl...love your entries for Gallery Idol!!

Your bee card is a smile maker!

Ha, I knew Dr. John wouldn't get hexagons! :D But once you've shown him these cards, I'm sure he'll appreciate them. Totally justified purchase, I'd say.

Virginia, both of these projects are TERRIFIC!! I adore the clean and simple lines and the very "punny" sentiment of the first one. Super cute and clever! You ARE submitting these two for Gallery Idol, right?!! These are WINNERS, girlie!! XO

Both cards are so trendy and fun! I didn't think I needed another set of dies, but those hexagons are too cool! And I love that you share your convos with Dr. John. Have a wonderful weekend, V!

I don't know why he couldn't see immediately what a value that was :) I agree with Karen- the less said to husbands about prices the better.
These are lovely cards. I love how you used the gold gems in the first card, and the colors in the second are so happy and unique.

Yes, what was Dr. John thinking about scissors! I love what you have been creating with these hexagons! So inspiring!

Fantastic cards1 Love how you used them with the bees! Now you need to figure out what you can cut at his office in a shape of the hexagon to show him how useful it is for his work too! LoL!

You are brave, buying those hexagons before knowing what you'll do with them! LOL This is one shape I've shied away from. LOOOVE that bee card; cutest EVER!

These cards are both fabulous Virginia! I LOVE the hexagons! I love the "bee"lieve in your dreams and the bling on the first card and the second one is a great masculine card.

Dr. John is so funny. He should try reverse psychology like my husband he's always telling me I don't buy myself enough things. LOL He just knows I'm too frugal to spend the money but that's okay. I think those dies were totally worth it! BTW and I have a gift card to Simon Says Stamps that is burning a hole in my pocket. Just so much to choose from there!

so darling... love your bees and hexagons. Good luck and I think you have quite a good chance. :)

Men! Just ask him how many different screwdrivers he has, that will shut him up. Ha.

Hi Virgina! 15 dies for $25 is a STEAL you should tell him about the sets that are 5 for $30! :> I love how you use them! Make sure to use them lots because when the trend is over it will be over! I have no idea how to make the hexagon shape without a die I couldn't imagine trying to use my cutter or anything! Love today's CARDS! :>

LOL love the conversation you had with Dr. John! It's just like that time when my bf came over for some Mother's Day cards. "You have a WHAT to do that line in the middle of the card? And it costs 15 bucks?!"

So awesome :D

You bought the Hexagon set for the exact same reason I did! Obviously, great stamping minds think alike. Scissors? Give me a break - that's what dies are for. Meanwhile, LOVED your cards, and now I think I'll go downstairs and play with all 15 pieces of that fabulous set!

cnelson said...

Definitely worth every penny! I'm so loving hexagons, too!

I know that hexagons are quite the rage, but I haven't even had time to use my chevron stamp (which was the last rage, right?)! So, as sweet as these are, I will not be joining you with this shape. I love the vintage images and bright colors on the good Doc's card......he deserves this special master piece. Hugs!
