My Ugliest card!

Be warned! Eye sores ahead.....
Today's post will be a little extremely embarrassing (for me) to share. Because I am posting an old ugly card of mine from my early card-making days.....(yikes)! Considering this as a public service to all card-makers, I am joining a few brave souls to share an ugly card or two to celebrate April Fool's Day! This idea originated from my "little friend" Suzanne (from The Card Yard). What a fun and talented gal, huh?

Since I have SO many ugly cards over the years and I thought why not choose one card and talk about "What Not to Make"! I actually share two more ugly cards when I drafted this post, but I decided that it is HUGELY embarrassing...I opted for one in the end! So this is sort of a spin-off from Stacey and Clinton's "What Not to Wear"....Ready? Set? Go!

please note: this was made circa Feb. 2009---way before this blog was born.
 Birthday Cupcakes
So..ok....This was my very first hideous birthday card I made over Hero Arts Flickr. 2009 was the time when I picked up card-making. It was a time that I simply grabbed any stamps, made something... and put them together--voila!

Style: there is absolutely no style in this card. The colors are quite off (the blue and brown...? The coloring were horrendous--no copics at the time) and the edges are all over the place! And wow, did you see the glitter? And let's not forget the gems, sprinkles, candle, ribbon and button flower....I piled on what I thought would look GOOD --->wrong!
Verdict: it's a toss! I think it's hidden in the bin of shame! I don't even think I want to see it.

This post proves to be a bit painful for me. However, After lots of practice and improvement over the last 4 years, I can now at least laugh about them and see how far that I had come! PLEASE do not un-follow/un-subscribe my blog because of my previous hideous early work (LOL)! As you can see, they do get better (I promise)!

Last week, I got an e-mail from Papercraft Inspirations (UK) as the editor informed me that my latest publication with the April 2013 issue is on sale now till April 6 in UK and up to 6 weeks overseas!
It was this little card with bubble wrap that will be on p. 89
 you are so loved
With that positive thought, I hope you are inspired by this post. Our card-making skills and design sense can only get BETTER as long as you are passionate about it. Now if you'll excuse me, I am going to hide myself in the biggest hole I can dig into..

Thanks so much for sticking around!
edited: AS I hopped around the Ugly Card Blog Hop and was looking for an uglier card (than mine), I think I WIN on this one---hands down!

Oh Virginia! It's so nice to see how you started off. Sometimes I worry that I wasn't born with the amazing talent I see in so much of your posts. It makes me feel like with a lot of practice I'll get there one day too! I soooo appreciate you sharing and CONGRATS on your publication!

The whole idea of this Hop makes me laugh, and credit to you for stepping up and posting along with it Virginia! We all started this way didn't we, so it's fantastic to see just how much you've grown and the beauty that is being published really shows how great you've become!!

Congratulations on your publication, Virginia. It has a beautiful design And lovely colors - love the bubble wrap as a stamp :) And thank you so much for posting that ugly card. It's very encouraging to see that you did not make beautiful cards in the beginning. I can't wait to check out the rest of the hop!

I love your bubble wrap card. I am going to attempt to use this technique. I have plenty of bubble wrap hanging out at our house. Congrats on the publication.

You have certainly developed great skills since 2009 from "ugly" card to beautiful publication cards. BTW, your "ugly" card is not ugly. You haven't seen ugly until you see my early years of stamping.

I am glad you got much better, because I really enjoy your blog posts now. I have those ugly cards too - the amazing thing was that I liked them back then.... I sometimes wonder if I will say the same thing a few years from now, when I look back at the cards I am producing now.....

You could have named this post "You, Too, Can Become An Inspiration!" Virginia, this is the best example of inspiration I have seen. It did not take you long to go from your ugliest card to being an inspired artist, (PUBLISHED artist!) for all your followers and fans to learn from! Way to go!!

Oh YAY, I was so excited to see your post when I saw the title! Isn't it amazing when we look back at earlier work, and know that at the time we thought it turned out really well? I've done that with scrapbooking and "artsy" photos too. It's so satisfying though to see how far you've come. Way to go, Virginia, for posting this (maybe the other two can make an appearance later too?!) and for all your growth over the last 4 years. What an accomplishment!!!

And love your bubble wrap card! I have to admit, I still like your lettuce stalk card the best though. I thought of it when I was flipping through the kitchen section of the new issue of Paper Crafts yesterday. It would have been right at home there : )

PS, I think it's SO COOL that you like Green Day!! I am slightly obsessed with them : )

You're "ugly" card isn't so bad. It's sure a whole lot better than mine are. Congrats on the publication!!

I can honestly say I don't see you in this card at all. That's probably a relief! lol! Like all the other 'uglies', it's got good components that could have made a beautiful card. Actually, I get a Spring, Fall Winter feel from your cupcakes - maybe it's a cake for all seasons? Glad you joined in the fun!
