Memories from Chicago (Part 2)

Alert: photo-heavy post :)
Note: there is a giveaway (Virginia Gives Thanks) in my blog, please check the right side bar
If you missed my first post about my trip to Chicago, please click here. Today is Part 2!
Here are the remaining Top 10 favorites! Here we go:

6. Museum Campus: a 57-acre museum park that sits near Lake Michigan in Chicago and surrounds three of the city's most notable museums, all dedicated to the natural sciences:
the Adler Planetarium
The lake area near the planetarium is absolutely breath-taking! Sometimes the best views/sights are FREE! This surely is the case with the Museum Campus.
 the Shedd Aquarium
Since we had limited time, we only walked around the museums. However, that didn't stop me from getting a hot dog-Chicago Style!
7. Navy Pier: We had fun exploring the pier and enjoyed our dinner at Bubba Gump. It was so relaxing and scenic. Dr. John had lots of fun taking photos of the yachts, ships and skyline!
8. Robie House: Before our trip, Dr. John already built the Lego Robie House and was familiar with the setting and layout...so of course, when you set foot in Chicago, Robie House was a must-stop for us.
(Dr. John's Lego Collection)
We booked a tour of the Robie House. It's so neat to finally see this house up close and we had fun touring inside the house. However,  photography was not allowed inside, thus, no interior photos to show you here!
9. University of Chicago: After touring the Robie House, we walked to the campus and visited two places right in the University of Chicago. I wish we had more time (and energy) to explore the campus grounds. It is indeed a beautiful campus and the museums are FREE to visit!

Frank Lloyd Wright's designed dining table and chairs for Robie House are on display here.

10. Food: From the very fine cuisine ( Cafe des Architectes) to the street food (Hot Dog Chicago style), we loved them all!
In case you are wondering about the difference between average hot dogs and Chicago hot dogs...
well, there is no ketchup in the Chicago style hot dogs! The Chicagoans deemed that ketchup is simply not acceptable!

It did take me quite a few hours to prepare these posts about Chicago. Knowing that many of you enjoy my travel posts, I am all the more encouraged to make sure that you enjoy traveling through our lenses! I am excited about our NEXT destination and will certainly SHARE my trips with you in the near future! I hope you enjoy the little Chicago tour as much as we did. Thanks for stopping by!

Fabulous photos of a great city--looks like you had wonderful weather. We lived north of Chicago for 10 years and enjoyed several trips to explore the architecture and cultural events. Check out "Devil in the White City" for some intriguing Chicago history.

Wonderful pictures! If you get a chance to go back, go inside the museums, they are a treasure trove. My boys really love Shed's aquarium.

Oh, Virginia, your photos are wonderful. Thank you for a trip to Chicago especially Dr. John's Robie House. A good book, fiction, about Frank Lloyd Wright is "Loving Frank". My book club read it.

Thanks for showing your trip to Chicago in detail... it is, most probably, "my" trip to Chicago, too :). P.S. - I love your guide, he seems to be very well informed, from architecture to art and gastronomy... he covers it all :).
P.P.S. - About the John Hancock Observatory; if the only way to go up to the 95th floor is in an outside elevator, I would never visit this Observatory... I'm shaking just from watching your picture... my worst nightmare.

Looks like such a fun trip! That food looks delicious!!
I love Chicago. My daughter studied at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. (SAIC) There's a homeless man there that everyone calls "Sketch" because he'll sketch a portrait of you in exchange for some money. He's actually quite good, so next time you're in Chicago, look for a homeless guy with a sketch pad.

Virginia, I look so forward to your wonderful travel
photos and all the information you share. These are beautiful photos and so interesting. I would love to go there sometime.
I grew up in Central Illinois, before being "transplanted to Texas " I would love to go back and visit Chicago . it's a great city.
You and Dr. John should write a book about all your interesting travels.
Thanks so much for all the time you take in showing and telling us about your trips together.

This is such a treat for me! The last time I went to Chicago, it was at O'Hare Airport and I just brushed my teeth in the restroom and hopped a flight to Puerto Rico! This time I feel like I joined the Lus! Loving the food shots--you are all such gourmands! Thank you, thank you, for sharing!

No ketchup... must be the German influence. I just love your photo tours of fun places in the world. TFS.
We've actually been to Chicago. Went to the aquarium cuz I am a Beluga whale freak and would you believe they had just had a baby and the exhibit was closed. I stood on my tiptoes up in a corridor for half an hour peeking through a slit to catch a glimpse of them as they swam in their habitat. My kids went to the gift shop and bought me a stuffed Beluga :)
