Hello, dear Yes,Virginia...friends/followers. It's Dr. John here.
Today's post will be about Alesund. Known for it's Art Nouveau architecture, it is built upon three islands connected by a network of bridges. As this was our fourth port-of-call in four days, we decided not to book any excursions, opting instead to do a relaxing walk through the town centre.

The upper left photo shows the Norwegian Centre of Art Nouveau Architecture. It is a museum with exhibitions telling the story of the town fire of 1904 that practically destroyed the entire town as well as the rebuilding of the town in the Art Nouveau style.

The top photos show the viewpoint on top of Mount Aksla. The bottom photo shows the band that performed on the pier as we sailed away.

A fire boat performs the traditional farewell display. Left photo: V for Yes, Virginia and Virginia's View Challenge. Upper right photo: X for Celebrity Cruises.

Thanks for looking. Our next and final stop is Stavanger.

Hi, it's Virginia here! The kids and I hit the local market in Alesund that morning. Here are some snippets: vendors selling cheese, smoked meat and all kinds of Norwegian food/treats.

We spied the tourist train and lovely street and harbors scenes. The statue depicts the old fisherman's wife's daily life.
I hope you enjoyed today's tour.
Please leave Dr. John a comment because he has just one more post to go!

Here are a few classes over Craftsy. (click on the banners to check them out).
Thanks for stopping by!

Candy for my eyes, Dr. John....you have a good eye for photography. The photo of the very modern building and next to it a lovely old building or at least one built c. 1904...wow what a mixture of styles. The roof tops photo is so enchanting. I love the photos of buildings reflected in water....engaging. The market photos are wonderful, it's such a treat to see how others live, shop and enjoy life. The sculpture of "a fisherman's wife" my goodness does that ever tell a tale. And last but not least, another wonderful photo of your smiling Stephanie and David. Thank you for sharing this part of the world with me.

Dr. John, now my Saturday is complete. These photo arrays of yours are such a treat. Fascinating archetecture in this jewel of a town. So peaceful and beautiful. This is a favorite way to travel, for me. Just wandering around looking at the buildings and scenic waterways, meeting locals and sampling their fare. What are we going to do when your travelogues are over? Oh dear.
