Farewell to My Mother-In-Law

Hello friends!
Today's post is one of those difficult posts to write...
If you follow my blog regularly, you sure get a ton of card share, travel photos and fun family stories/trivia. Well, as you all know, life is not always unicorns and butterflies.

In the midst of busy Altenew blog hops last week here in my blog, Dr. John and I got that phone call that we have been dreading at early morning on Wednesday. It was from my mother-in-law's hospital doctor resident as she told us that Dr. John's Mom deteriorated overnight and suggested us to be there as soon as we could. We literally dropped everything right there and then and drove 6 hours to be with her. We also summoned Stephanie and David and they, too, joined us at the hospital to be with their beloved Grandma.

Prior to this, my mother-in-law suffered a heart attack at the end of March and had been in hospital since. We were hoping that she would recover and join my Father-in-Law in the retirement home. She didn't and left us that Thursday morning.

My Mother-in-law is well-known for her amazing will power, strength and determination. She came on her own in her early 20s in the late 40s from China to study in University of Toronto. Ever since the, she made Canada her home and native land. She loved anything and everything Canadian. One of her favorite landmarks in Canada is Peggy's Cove, Nova Scotia.  Despite the loss of her teenage daughter in the 70s, she remained strong and always had a positive outlook on life.

What could be more perfect to share the lighthouse that she loved?

stay strong-001

I am dedicating this card in honor of my mother-in-law and her unwavering love and spirit.

In my mother-in-law's late years, we constantly urged them to move out of the big house that they lived for the last 40some years. My in-laws resisted the idea no matter what we said.

stay strong

Nevertheless she persisted.
She lived in the house until she went to the hospital and now she is in heaven.
edited: the pastor from her church visited her twice in the hospital and she told him that she was "ready" if this is The Lord's timing.

Rest in Peace, Mom.

I'm so sorry for your loss Virginia. Please extend my sincere sympathies to your family. After reading your tribute to your mother-in-law I could picture her strong spirit, coming to Canada on her own and standing firm about not leaving the home she'd loved for 40 years. She was a beautiful lady and you honored her well. The flowers are gorgeous- and I love the card..

Virginia, your mother-in-law is smiling brightly in heaven at the beautiful, heart-warming and heart-melting tribute you've shared, in both words and photos. She appears to have embraced life with zest and vigor, and with a spirit positive and resolute. She obviously played special roles in all your lives and her loss will be deeply missed. I know you know she's in heaven; an angel watching over all of you. Your lighthouse conveys well her strength, her determination and her 'radiant light' that I'm sure offered guidance to many people whose lives she touched. Hugs, prayers and love coming to you, Dr. John and your family...

I think you must be a very special person to share the intimate details of your family . Particularly this loss. I have lost both beloved parents as well as my dear, sweet father-in-law.. Very tough, but part of this journey. Such a pretty water colored card of the crashing surf and lighthouse you dedicated in her memory.
