A Tutorial on Customizing Your Paper with Dies

Hello friends!

Warning: Super-heavy photo post
Nordic #7

Often times I find myself in "needing" colorful paper that will work with specific dies.
There simply are not any kind of design paper that wold work with the dies that I want to create with.
So, of course, I had to take matter into my own hand.
Because that's how we paper-crafters roll, right?
I took photos of my creating process and shared it in sequence.
This will give you some good ideas on how to do "just that".

I am using two dies from Spellbinders as my example.
#1
1. Paint some random color stripes on watercolor/Bristol paper.

#2
When I say random, it still involves some planning ahead. I picked colors that appeals to me and kept the dies that I used in mind.

#4

2. Arrange dies in position and select pieces accordingly.
#3

3. Choose colors that will coordinate with the rest of your design. As you see, there is no waste in the paper! each inch is used up!
#5

4. Assemble and turn it into a project( card)! I used kraft card stock for the Dala Horse.

Nordic #1

5. to make the color stand out, I added extra pieces of white paper to compliment the color blue and red on kraft card stock.

Nordic#2

6. I added an extra piece of white Dala Horse die underneath the colorful one.

Nordic #4
7. Group of 3 work really nicely in this. I wanted to give these bright colors the attention. No extra fancy schmancy elements needed.

Nordic #5

8. To align with simplicity of the Nordic design, I kept the design super clean and simple.

This sums up this tutorial. I hope that you are inspired to create your own color paper and use the dies that you have been dying to try!

Love the technique! Have eyes on that Nordic Blooms Etched dies. You can also do this on patterned paper by strategically placing the metal die on top of the design you want on your die cut.-Maria Giselle B.

Pretty and colorful designs. I like how you painted on the paper and then die cut.
