Add Details with a Stencil (with a Light Bulb Moment)

Hello friends!

How are you? I am popping in with a simple watercolored card.
It's not a full-on watercoloring, just the images.
Pen Sketched Flowers

I took out the Altenew Watercolor 36 Pan Set and started watercoloring.

thankful for you
It always feels so good and calming to play with watercolors.

thankful for you-001

Once I finished coloring, I arranged them in the most pleasing way as best as I can.
thankful for you
Next comes the Light Bulb Moment...
DING: why not add extra colors or textures by just shifting the stencil a little bit? This was exactly what I did here. With the Warp Speed Stencil, I started with the green ink and then the yellow. Doesn't that warm yellow glow makes a difference?

thankful for you-002
I took the advantage with stencil and stamped the sentiment where where the focal point should be.
I find the card was still lacking a bit of sparkle....so I added the Nuvo Glitter with Glossy Accent.

Sympathy Cards

Hello friends!

I am sure you are likely agree that our life can be depicted in cards, right?
Recently I got asked to create 15 sympathy cards by my doctor friend Joe.
I have made a few batches of sympathy cards for his use before. Sadly, he ran out of them.

I set out to create a very simple design and kept the colors neutral.

Since I am also busy with our daughter's wedding, I didn't want to spend too much time on designing card sets.  In the end, I went with the Dandelion Wishes.

This stamp set is very forgiving as there is little line-up. You can keep the stems and leaves simple.

I tried my best to utilized the various shades of yellow. Because it is sympathy cards, I envisioned in my mind that one of the flying dandelions evokes a feeling of "fallen".

sympathy cards #2

Therefore, I stamped it differently from the rest of the dandelions.
Many of us struggled to make Sympathy cards. I admit, it is not easy.

Here are a few things to consider when making a sympathy card

~clean and simple
~no bright color combo
~pop of colors are OK....so long as the colors fit the theme (such as the dandelion cards)
~nature-themed cards are generally suitable
~still life and floral image are most popular
~white space is needed

sympathy cards #1

I am charging $2 Canadian (it's $1.50 US) a card and give my friend a "deal".
I want to encourage him to use my handmade cards.

What's your thoughts on making sympathy cards? Do you have your go-to images/colors?
I hope my ideas make sense to you. I'd love to hear from you !

Grateful For You

Hello friends!
I am popping in with a thank-you card post.
This is the special time for my family as my daughter Stephanie is getting married next Saturday!
Stephanie and her fiancee Greg are both very organized individuals. The planned every details of their wedding, I am actually not stressed out at all. My neighbors even said that I looked so clam with my daughter's upcoming wedding. It's only 120 people. No. big. deal.

Joking aside, the only two things I need to help was the wedding program and thank you card.
I have been saving all my thank-you cards and went through my pile .....

Clean and Simple

Hello friends!

I am popping in with a super clean and simple card.
The stamped images are leftover pieces from other projects ....
I merely regroup and assemble them.

It all started with that little lime green strip in the background.
Can you guess what stamp set it is from?
thank you from the bottom of my heart

Birch Impressionism!
Yeah, save every piece as long as they are well-crafted.
I have "SAVE" pile in a zip lock bag. When you save a pile, you can challenge yourself to create a project! YES, this is a great exercise for your mind and.... wallet $!
And, also... you are making good use of your leftovers.
It's a win win.

thank you (2)

The purple flower from Simply The Best was previously stamped but it didn't fit into the card design that I had in mind.
I then added a piece of white embossed vellum.
It looks pretty darn good, right?

thank you from the bottom of my heart

I need something to ground the large flower. Then I found the grid pattern paper!

thank you-001
The only new thing that I did use was this green glitter.
To save time, I have listed all the highlighted products in the following links.

A Touch of Alcohol Ink

Hello friends!

I am popping in with a quick post about the Penny Black new release.

A few days ago, I asked followers over my Instagram which NEW Penny Black stamp I should use first. I gave 4 choices and this was the winner! The 2nd place fell to Snowy Owl (which I will share a project soon).

thankful for you-002

Instead of stamping in regular Distress Ink or Distress Oxide, I decided to emboss the image on vellum. Once I did that, I proceeded to add Alcohol Pearl ink to the back and a little bit on the front.

It doesn't take very long to add Alcohol Ink....
thankful for you-003

While applying Alcohol ink, I was having WAY too much fun and got carried away. I may have added more alcohol ink than I should (guess I was "Alcohol-ink drunk"!!? )
thankful for you

In order to cover the "imperfection", I added the sentiment on the top right.
It seems to do the "job"! I hope to come up with another version of this wreath.

Don't forget to comment to win in my 10-year Bloggerversary post.
The last month's Show and Share winners were announced here.

I am also listing the Penny Black stamps that I will be featuring in the next few weeks.

Stamp Focus: Birch Impressionism

 Hello friends!
Warning: super photo-heavy post

How do you like our September release? Impressive, right? If you are a nature and floral lover, you then might have noticed "Birch Impressionism". This layering stamp set comes in TWO sizes of birch trees and four layers. With each layering stamp, it allows you create incredible depth and details.  I have created 3  cards and perhaps through my examples, you will be quite impressed with this stamp set!
(All products are listed at the end of this post.

Let's get right to the first project. The sentiment "happy winter birthday" was my inspiration. I set out to create a winter scene with birch trees. To simulate the white bark of the birch trees, I white-embossed (starting from the solid as first) the 3rd layer of the set first. Then I  took out the Gentleman's Gray and applied ink to the trees.
You may not see that I used the coordinating die, but I did use them for the ink-blending. This is why the die are "worth" getting because you can use the negative die cut paper as the mask.  With the negative die cut ( I use a piece of copy paper) in place, I applied the grey ink. After that, I used the coordinating die to cover up the trees and applied various blue ink (Deep Blue Seas and  Lapis Lazuli) around the trees.

Our Pure White Ink Spray is the best "snow"!  I absolutely love creating the snow scene.  The scene started to come to life once I added the white splatter! And oh...did I mention that it's worth getting the coordinating die?  I stamped  the sentiment "happy winter birthday" and used the Birch Tree Die and die-cut the sentiment! I bet you can use this die for ALL of your sentiment! Cool, right?
TIP: To create a natural setting, do not be afraid to change up the stamps a little bit. The slanted tree on the left evokes a natural and rustic setting. You can also leave out the word "winter" and use "happy birthday" all year round.

The 2nd card is to celebrate love and nature! The Parchment card stock is perfect for stamping the birch trees!

This time, the birch trees were stamped in brown (Hazelnut, Almond Butter) and white- embossed ( Pure White Embossing Powder.)

I then die cut the trees and popped them over the card stock. The background (Vanilla Cream) and heart (stamped in Rubellite,  diecute with Halftone Heart Nesting Dies) were stamped with "A Walk in the Woods". I also changed up the sentiment "you & me" to the vertical setting.
TIP: stamp the & first and then you (on top) and me ( at the bottom). I used Washi Tape to cover part of the sentiment, so it will not leave any ink in unwanted area when stamping.
My 3rd card is all about floral. The Birch Impressionism is fabulous for backgrounds!

I paired it up with Charming Doodles with the assorted colors of Birch Impressionism. This card is pretty straightforward. I am listing the colors in case you like to create something like this.

Charming Doodles: stamps and leaves (Tropical Forest, Misty Morning), Hearts (Coral Berry), flowers (Snapdragon, Marigold and Enchanted Gold), trees (Vanilla Cream, Sunray, Milk Chocolate).

As you can see "Birch Impressionism" is so very versatile. I love that you can use the birch tree for nature or more graphic designs. The multiple layers sure make it fun and easy!

TIP: To add dimensions, simply popped up part of your background to create height and you can position your elements accordingly.  In the 3rd card, the dies provide the backbone for background, sentiment and colors!

I truly hope that you are impressed with this stamp set.
