One Embossing Folder, Two Textured Window Card Designs

It's my turn to share projects over Altenew Card Blog.

I am delighted to share TWO textured window card designs using one embossing folder today. I am using Window Slats 3D Embossing Folder as my example. The textures on this embossing folder offer so much potential for window scene cards. No matter what style or themes you prefer, you can totally make it your own. All products (in bold) are linked at the end of this post.

Creating the Window with Embossing Folder

First of all, let's start with the framework. The following are the 3 key steps to create a textured window frame. As you can see both cards are different in themes, however, the steps to create a frame are the same.

How to:

1. Trim the frame: Die cut the white card stock with a shape die, such as Mix and Match Frames Die.
2. Create a shape for the focal point: I used two types of shape die for the "window" (Nesting Frames Die and Fine Frames Squares Die).
3. Add textures: dry emboss the frame with Window Slats 3D Embossing Folder.

 

For the daffodil (Craft-a Flower-Daffodil Layering Die) card, I used Gel Printing Soft Wash Paper Pad to create the various shades of petals and leaves. This was really easy to do once you figure out the shades and depth.

The "peeking out" leaves and daffodil look so much more fun and interesting. You can play with the positioning to see what makes you happy.

For the sentiment, I die cut "HI" with Mighty Alphabet Die out of Glitter Card Stock -Gilded.

 

 The Pocketful of Sunshine Enamel Dots make the perfect embellishments. If you own the Cat Life Stamp Set, you already know how much fun it is to use it. Here's another window design to spark your creativity.

 I stamped the three cats based on the instructions and it didn't take long at all. The cats' colors (from left to right) are Hazelnut, Autumn Blaze, and Evening Grey.

 The window slats were lightly inked with Vanilla Cream. The Detailed Blending Brushes are really handy for inking up the edges. For the "night sky", I applied a piece of Watercolor Nebula Wide Washi Tape and added droplets of glitter.

After stamping the sentiment "just fur you", I stamped and lightly colored the three mice.I adhered the cats and window frame with Washi Tape. I then added Instant Dimension Foam Tape all over the backside and popped it up.

Add Details to Large Blooms

Hello friends!

I am back with another project created with Spellbinders Clematis Etched Dies. 

The Clematis Etched Dies is part of the Garden Favorites Collection by Susan Tierney-Cockburn. It includes a set of four thin metal dies to make this robust Queen of Climbers flower blossom on any of your projects! Finished flower with foliage measures approximately 0.75 x 2.75 x 3.00 in./1.90 x 7.00 x 7.60 cm.

 

 As you can probably see, I did not follow the exact instructions..... my bad.

 However, I think it's quite alright to bend however you like with the petals. I simply ran out of time to try out the different ways of folding.

 To add detail on the petals, I used Must have-(white) Gel Pens to highlight the bent area.

 For the background, I created three rectangles panels (see here) ...I find myself doing this quite often. It's likely because I have the trusty rectangle dies!?

 To add shading and highlight, I applied inks all around the edges of each petals and leaves.

A CAS Card from "Scraps"

 Hello friend! 

It's always delight to come up with a sweet design from leftover pieces.... today's card was created with a few pieces of left over dies.

This was the card that I created for the release with Dainty Leaves Die

 

 

I then had a few leftover leaves and thought they were too good to go to waste. Once again, I used "Crystal Wall 3D Embossing Folder" for the Versatile Vase.

 

I then came up with the simplest design. For the vase, I colored the top and added some simple black lines (with Fine Liner Pen Set) on top. Once I put the leaves into the vase, I felt that it was still lacking something. 

 

 

 I then stamped the Mini Delight Amaryllis and sentiment (from Sentiment 3 Stamp Set)

 

 

Sometimes it's nice to just create ....without overthinking. I ma glad that I put scraps into good use. A simple thank-you card is always welcomed, right?

Card with Floral Boots and March $15 Altenew GC Winner Announcement

If you are not crazy abut slimline cards, that should not deter you from getting the Nesting Slim Rectangles Die set. I created the panels with Wahicovered paper and die cut pieces.

 I also love using Parchment paper to ground all the images.

  Even if you are color- challenged, you will be able to color this image as it is small the detailed.

  In order to add a pop of color for the focal point, I die cut the frame with Mix and Match Frame Die.

 

 

 

After taking out the outside panel, I applied colors to the main frame and die cut it through the Flower Bed Embossing Folder. 

 

 

 

This resulted a colored panel with a white border. I also popped up the main panel with two more pieces of paper to make it more pronounced.

  

 I added the "XO" with the Mighty Alphabet Die  and that's it!

Do you know...... Embossing Folders are GREAT for water-coloring!

All you need is watercolor paper like this A2 size. The ridges help you decide on the colors and it was super fun and therapeutic to do. You MUST try it if you have not done so!
