How to Stretch The Butterfly Border Die

Hello friends!

It's another exciting day here at the blog. I have one project with a new (to me) border die to share.

This Butterfly String (Penny Black) serves as the prime example.

I started out with die-cutting the butterflies on color paper. The DIY color paper was created with Gel Plate. This proved to be very quick and easy. Gel Plate seems to be quite popular now. I got mine about 2 years ago and really loved it. I can see why it's trending right now.

Next for the background,  I inked up Alcohol Ink on vellum.  I inked up only part of of the vellum. This way, it gives some balance and interest.

Take away: when it comes to alcohol ink, restraint is the key (sometimes). In this card, I find the white space provided room for the design to "breathe".

Next comes the s-t-r-e-t-c-h-i-n-g part, I cut up the butterfly strings and adhered the butterflies to the mix. This really made a huge difference.  The glitter paper was used in this purpose.

The whole ensemble looks like a beautiful mess and that's what I was going for.

To lighten up the overall colors,  I also added a few white droplets (Liquid Pearl).

STUNNING effect. So much texture and movement on this card. The inked vellum is vibrant and looks like a gorgeous hydrangea that exploded with butterflies. The result makes for an outstanding card.

Great color idea. I haven't had a chance to use my gel plate. I think I'm just waiting for a good look at how to get started with it.
