Hello friends!
Today's post is one of those that is difficult to write....
Today is my Father-in-law's funeral. He and my now passed Mother-in-law had pre-planned their funeral many years ago while they were still healthy and able.
“Looking back over the years, what could I say in only a few words about my life? I wish I had trusted the Lord more when I was younger. I wish that I had spent more time with all the members of the family, and had spent less time struggling for establishing my career and for trying to achieve security on my own for the family. The most important thing is to trust the Lord, to do His will, and to have a good and fulfilling life with the family.” Benjamin C.-Y. Lu
They listed their favorite hymns and verses, flower arrangement, program...even down to the sandwiches at the reception.
Due to Covid, all things needed to be scaled down. Although our province has lifted some restrictions, we think it's best to keep the funeral simple and is for immediate family only. My father-in-law was a Chemical Engineering professor and Scientist, he would have wanted to keep everyone safe within the government's health guideline.
Shortly after arriving from Taiwan, I started my Master's degree in Education in Ottawa, Canada. My father-in-law was then my boyfriend John's Dad. He offered to teach me how to drive before I signed up at driving school! With his "lessons", I got to try driving a car for the first time! I would never forget how dangerous it was for him because the risk he took.
To most people, he was a warm Grandpa and a kind and wonderful professor. To me, he was a very brave soul to teach me how to drive! In his last few years of his life, I spent more time overseeing his retirement home living. Despite with dementia, he's never lost his personality and continued to be kind and maintained his sense of humor. I will be doing a reading of Psalm 23 at the funeral.
May you rest in peace in heaven, Pop. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I am so sorry for your loss. He sounds like a wonderful man. And, I do like how you personalized the card in his honor. Beautiful colors. My husband and I have our funeral arrangements all done and as well we wrote our obituaries. I don't recall planning any menu for the meal though. But it is a good thing for us to have that weight off our mind and that of our family. We also have our headstone put up and all that will be needed is the final dates.
What a beautiful soul! You are truly blessed to have had him in your life for so many years. Hugs to you my friend!!
Thinking of you today, Virginia. Wishing you peace and comfort.
